近期，新型冠状病毒感染的肺炎疫情的发展在全世界引起了关注。由于种种原因，在一些国家和地区的民众中产生了消极甚至是负面的情绪，误解、恐慌导致的不理智行为偶有发生。

　　但我们欣喜地看到，更多的有识之士和善良的人们站了出来，他们或积极捐款捐物，或传播科学防疫知识，或用自己的方式表达了对武汉人民、中国人民的祝福，以及对在当地生活的中国留学人员、华人华侨的支持。

　　疫病无情，人间有情。我们共同的敌人是病毒，我们共同的语言是爱和善良。

　　为让学生及教职员工科学认识新型冠状病毒感染的肺炎疫情，做好个人防护，同时也向在当地的中国师生提供各方面的必要帮助，日前5所美国大学相继发出公告，呼吁客观冷静对待疫情，相信科学，反对歧视，并以实际行动向中国师生伸出援手。

　　自新型冠状病毒疫情出现以来，密苏里州立大学 (MSU) 校领导高度重视校内学生安全，并为此做出紧急预案。美国时间1月28日，密苏里州立大学主要校领导、国际项目相关办公室主管、校医院、当地医疗机构及斯普林菲尔德地方卫生局主要负责人召开研讨会，制定关于疫情的预防措施与应急方案，为任何可能出现的情况做好学生服务保障。

　　密苏里州立大学中国项目办公室提醒师生员工，由于新型冠状病毒感染的肺炎的一些症状类似于感冒或流感，因此需要养成良好的生活习惯，如勤洗手等。若校内的中国学生有任何与疫病相关的症状，请及时与中国项目办公室取得联系，中国项目办公室将协助学生与校医院及当地医疗机构进行协调。

　　Unfortunately, due to the risks associated with the virus and guidance from the U.S. Department of State and the CDC, we have made the tough decision to cancel our regional events in Shanghai and Beijing on February 13 and 15. Again, I am deeply saddened to share this news, as I was really looking forward to meeting you, celebrating many of our recent successes, and sharing my updates and vision for WashU as your 15th Chancellor.
